Day 1: Hanoi - Chi Lang - Lang Son - Dong Dang - Dong Khe - Quang Uyen
The 3-day tour starts with an 8 am pick up at your hotel in Hanoi. From Hanoi, you'll head towards Lang Son by the Chinese border. After a 3-hour drive, you'll arrive in Chi Lang, a famous battleground during several of Vietnam's past wars.
After exploring Chi Lang and its beautiful valley, you'll head to Dong Dang for a delicious lunch at a local restaurant.
The next stop will be at Mother's Temple, a beautiful temple in the hills of Dong Dang, followed by a visit to Dong Khe. Dong Khe is where the famous Battle of Dong Khe took place there during the First Indochina War in 1950.
From Dong Khe, you'll head to the rural town of Quang Uyen, where you'll spend the night at Nung's family homestay. At the homestay, you'll get introduced to the culture of the Nung ethnic group.
For dinner at the homestay, you'll have the opportunity to sample the Nung ethnic cuisine.
Day 2: Cao Bang - Phuoc Sen - Ban Gioc Waterfall - Ba Be Lake
You will have breakfast at the homestay before departing for Trung Khanh, which lies on the border with China. There, you will visit the village of Phuoc Sen, a mountainous village famous for its traditional blacksmith craft. At Phuoc Sen Village, you'll have a further chance to interact with the charming Nung tribal people.
From Phuoc Sen, you'll head to Vietnam's most famous waterfall, Ban Gioc Waterfall, nestled in amongst the magnificent limestone mountains. You will have the opportunity to take in the breathtaking view and some Instagram friendly photos before heading to your next adventure.
Your next stop will be Nguom Ngao Cave, one of the most spectacular cave systems in Vietnam. This cave extends several miles into the ground with a fantastic display of stalactites and stalagmites.
After discovering Nguom Ngao Cave, you'll head to the beautiful Ba Be Lake, the largest natural lake in Vietnam. You will arrive at the homestay near the lake where you can relax and unwind from an adventurous day. For dinner, you'll enjoy a traditional Tay ethnic food from locally sourced ingredients.
Day 3: Ba Be Lake - Hanoi
The morning will start with a breakfast at the homestay before getting on board a boat on the scenic Ba Be Lake.
You can even jump in for a swim in the refreshingly cool water, surrounded by stunning karst formations, wild vegetation, and incredible wildlife.
The boat will then continue along the Nang River, giving you a chance to explore the caves of Puong Grotto.
At Puong Grotto, you can marvel at the stalactites and stalagmites created through thousands of years of river erosion, as well as observe the large bat colony that lives there.
Now that you've reached the end of your tour, you'll start the 140 mile (230 km) journey back to Hanoi, with a stop at a tea plantation. Once in Hanoi, you'll be dropped off at your hotel.
