Hanoi - Lao Cai Overnight Train
Your English-speaking guide will meet up with you in Hanoi and take you to the Hanoi train station. Your train will depart just before 10 pm and take you to the beautiful border province of Lao Cai. On the 8-hour train ride, you'll be in a comfortable 4-people soft sleeper cabin equipped with air conditioning.
You will arrive at the Lao Cai train station, near the most famous town in Lao Cai, Sa Pa. Lao Cai province is renowned for its fantastic nature, tall mountains, rivers, rice terraces, caves, and ethnic hill tribes, particularly the Hmong, Nung, and Tay people.
Day 1: Sa Pa
You will arrive at Lao Cai train station at around 6 am. Outside the train station, a vehicle will be waiting to take you to Sa Pa, a 20-mile (33 km) drive. In Sa Pa, you'll have breakfast, check into the hotel, and explore this famous town, nicknamed Queen of the Mountains.
Late morning, you'll head to hill tribe village of Lao Chai, home to the Hmong ethnic minority. You will enjoy a traditional lunch with a local family. After lunch, you'll trek the rice terraces from Lao Chai to Ta Van village, where you'll learn the history and culture of the Giay people.
From Ta Van village, you'll head back to Sa Pa for a delicious dinner before going to the hotel and relax ahead of tomorrow's challenging day.
Day 2: Fansipan
Your day will start with breakfast at the hotel before embarking on Vietnam's tallest mountain, Fansipan. A bus will take you 10 miles (16 km) through Tram Ton Pass before visiting the picturesque Silver Waterfall.
From Silver Waterfall, you'll start the 6-hour strenuous trek up to 7,200 feet (2,200 meters). The trek will take you through amazing scenery, primitive jungles, across the numerous small streams, and bamboo forests.
Once you arrive at the overnight camp, you'll pitch your tent, have dinner and spend the night on the 10,000 feet high Fansipan mountain, nicknamed the Roof of Indochina. You will spend the night surrounded by fantastic nature and astonishing wildlife.
Day 3: Fansipan Summit - Sa Pa - Hanoi
Waking up in a beautiful setting on Fansipan, your day will start with a breakfast at the camp before preparing for a 4-hour trek to the summit. During the trek, you'll pass through beautiful pine and bamboo forest.
After a strenuous 4-hour climb, you will reach the summit of Vietnam's tallest mountain. At the summit, you'll spend time enjoying the breathtaking view of the Lai Chau province, Sa Pa, and nearby villages.
After enjoying lunch at the top of Fansipan, you'll start the descent down to Sin Chai Village of the Black Hmong tribe. From Sin Chai, you'll head back to Lao Cai via Sa Pa.
